Be warned: a lot has changed from Jak and Daxter, including the targeted audience. YAY FOR TEENAGERS! Jak and Daxter both swear, there's some scantily clad women (an instant 10/10), and the entire environment is much darker and a little bit on the scary side. All right, now that that's out of the way, to the review.
Jak and the entire gang have travelled forward in time; Jak has been captured by Baron Praxis, the leader of the post-apocalyptic Haven City, who is pumping him full of Dark Eco (remember the stuff in the first game where if you jumped in it, you died? Same stuff). Although the Baron thinks his experiments have failed, they have actually imbued Jak with some special "abilities", specifically the ability to turn into Dark Jak, which is incredibly awesome - especially considering the powers you get. Daxter saves you and you go through a nice introduction to the game and the controls (none of that annoying different place tutorial crap.) Naughty Dog also got a voice actor for Jak, so now you can talk!
You still only have 3 attacks, and all the Eco in the world is essentially long gone, but since it is in the future, you get GUNS! Yay! The good thing about the guns in this is that, when you get a new one, the rest aren't worthless, which is what I love about it. There are no upgrades for the guns in this game, but you probably won't notice or care about that.
Daxter is what really makes this game shine, he's absolutely hilarious. Naughty Dog didn't hold any punches in ramping up Daxter's on-the-side, on-the-fly commentary. If you do play this game late at night, try to keep the laughing down, seriously. Transportation in this game is also awesome: there are hovercars that can either hug the ground or touch the ceiling; no waiting in traffic for me! But seriously, the hovercars and hoverbikes are awesome because the city is pretty big and it takes A LOT of time to run through it.
The city guards are what you should really look out for, if you even graze one of them, they all start attacking you, and if you get in a hovercar they ram their hoverbikes into you, which instantly blows up your ship, so try not to anger them, it will save you a lot of trouble. You know the saying "sometimes your worst enemies can be your best freinds"? This NEVER applies to this game, so don't try to give the guards a hug or anything.
Besides the guards and Baron Praxis there are also evil creatures called Metalheads, who are attacking the city. You don't exactly like them either, so whenever you go outside the city, you fight them. So watch out; they're tough.
Same general style as the first, but it's smoother and the details are better. All the good aspects of graphics have been kept and even improved upon.
Effects: 10/10Every element of the game works perfectly. The sounds of gunfire, Daxter cursing whenever you get badly injured; the game is excellent.
Gameplay: 9/10I suffered some stupid deaths, especially when i played as Daxter; some things were made unbearable by this. But all in all, an excellent game.
Replayability: 9/10Even if it is just for Daxter's smart-ass comments, this game begs to be played again and again.
Overall: 10/10What can I say? A true PS2 gem.
