Yet another flying game made by LucasArts, but this one isn't a good one at all. You are a pilot of a Naboo Starfighter, and for the first bit you play with him. The beginning tutorial is aggravating, but does allow you to learn the controls somewhat. Don't be too annoyed if it takes you along time to kill an enemy if they just keep circling around you. The Naboo Starfighter is not a good ship and you only get those awesome proton torpedoes in the last couple of levels :(.
The second ship that you get is barely better than the first, the only thing making it so is it's special is that it's secondary weapon disables shields. The pilot is a female mercenary/bounty hunter employed by the Trade Federation to test their new ships.
The final ship you get to play is belongs to a smuggler, and is the only cool ship mainly because you have plasma bombs. This game is a weak effort by Lucas Arts, the genre of flying games is one that has so much potential but this game fails this category by allot. The story line is boring and simplistic. Nothing in it is complex at all (kind of like the three new movies!) The levels are either incredible simple or aggravatingly hard with no middle ground to dance on.
Starfighter is also short, with no upgrades or anything else to make it exciting. The scaling is also WAY off, you pilot one man ships and the Trade Federation Tanks are almost as big as you are, and Transport ships are only like 4 times bigger then you are. The landscapes are boring and lifeless with the exception of the two Naboo missions which are green and bright.
This game isn't even cool to just have, examples of those games are: Ratchet and Clank, GTA (which is surprisingly fun) and anything else by LucasArts. The Star Wars games were in a bit of a slump with the release of this and Bounty Hunter (also a not very good game.)
Star Wars Starfighter has no multiplayer (thank god) I find it strangely amusing that Star Wars has pumped out awesome flying games before like all the Rogue Squadrons for Computer and N64, even in Shadow of the Empire (another classic N64 game) the flying was pretty cool. But this game sucks something harsh.
Boring and lifeless
Effects: 6/10A lot more could have been done in this category, a lot more.
Gameplay: 5.5/10The controls are extremely sensitive and take a lot to get used to, a lot of stupid deaths in this game.
Replayablity: 3/10This reviewer had a hard time thinking about playing this game again.
Replayablity: 4/10A pathetic attempt by LucasArts.
