General Tips

- Crouching should be your favourite position. While going prone can be helpful in some situations, the dense foliage of Vietnam often means that if Charlie can't see you, you can't see them either.

- ALWAYS go for a headshot - it's an instant kill, no matter what you're packing.

- Pay VERY close attention to the ground - a little arrow mark means TRAPS, TRAPS, TRAPS.

- Little black lines are not your friend - they lead to trip mines, punji traps, and other wonderful "goodies".

- Always explore tunnels SLOWLY. They're usually very dark and always crawling with VC and NVA, neither of whom take well to trespassers. On the other hand, tunnels almost always lead you to excellent flanking positions, so use them well.

Weapon Tips

- Whether it's mounting a silencer, scope, or clean as a whistle, the M14 will be your best friend. This semi-automatic rifle is powerful, accurate, and reasonably fast-firing; it also REALLY, REALLY hurts when you smack someone with it.

- Ignore Sgt. Platt at the weapons range: the M16 is absolutely useless.

- Submachine-guns have very limited usefulness, except for the Swedish K. This piece of hardware is accurate, relatively powerful, and usually mounts a silencer; it's especially helpful in the Special Forces missions.

- Machine-guns can be fun, but be careful: they're big, loud, and inaccurate, plus they overheat with alarming frequency. Use with caution.

- In situations where accuracy and finesse are not part of your considerations, the Death Machine is perhaps the best weapon around - if you're fortunate enough to have it. This thing is powerful, quick-firing, and packs a whopping 1000-round belt. On the other hand, it's impossible to find reloads for it, so it's almost inevitable that you will have to pick up something else about two-thirds of the way through the mission.

- Resist the urge to carry the shotgun. While it's powerful, it's inaccurate, loud, and has a very limited clip size. With the exception of a few urban missions towards the end of the game, no combat you'll engage in will be at close enough range to make it worthwhile.

- The China Lake rocket pistol is usually worth the chits required to buy it from Deuce, but take care: while it will quite easily blow away any VC or NVA troopers in front of you, it can blow YOU away if you're too close, and it only has a two-round clip.
