- Expand early! The first twenty turns can often be crucial to determining your faction's position in the broad scheme of things.
- Generally speaking, set your research goals to Discover (if you're playing with blind research) at the start of the game. This way, you stand a chance of getting Secrets of the Human Brain earlier than anybody, giving you a free tech!
- Never pass up an opportunity to get free stuff (or mostly free). You never know when it'll come in handy.
- If you're playing Alien Crossfire, try and get to the Unity Wreckage before anybody else. It has within it 500 credits, the starting location of a random number of human (i.e. not alien) players, a Chopper, and a Laser unit. At the start of the game, this gives you a pretty hefty force.
Unit Tips- Make sure to add armour to your "civilian" units, i.e. transports, Colony Pods, and Formers. This way, they do not suffer the -50% Non-Combat bonus when attacked.
- Always build defence units with some kind of offensive weapon (at least a Laser). This allows them to counterattack against mind worms or rovers with some degree of success.
- Hovertanks kick ass! Use them well.
- Always keep a few Air Superiority-equipped Needlejets around; you never know when the enemy will try to pop an attack fighter your way.
- Once you've researched Neural Grafting (which allows you to equip two special abilities per unit), hold off on a designing spree until you discover Fusion Power. Otherwise, you're going to be forced to build some really expensive units.
- Whenever you manage to have the money, upgrade units en masse. It's almost always a good idea.
